This is a summary of a meeting held in Vladivostok in September 1991 on problems of demography and labor resources in the far eastern territories of Russia. "The meeting discussed [the] transition to a market economy and its impact on the birth and death rates of various sociodemographic groups of the population, as well as their health, family formation, and stability. It focused on analysis of migration processes and trends, the changed migration behavior of different sociodemographic and ethnic groups, and the specific features of market relationships in the sphere of labor (low incentives, growing hidden and real unemployment, and weak economic mechanisms for regulating employment)."
