This is the second volume of the proceedings of an international
seminar held in Siena, Italy, April 22-24, 1996. The 15 papers in this
volume, which are in English, French, or Italian, examine various
aspects of both the causes and consequences of demographic trends. The
conference was envisioned as a first step toward the development of a
basic demographic textbook including a synthesis of demography as a
discipline as well as analyses of individual demographic
phenomena.
