Population assistance is interpreted broadly to include a variety of activities as well as financial aid, and includes training and research. This publication, previously issued at three-year intervals, is now scheduled to be published annually.

This is the twentieth edition of this inventory, which lists externally assisted population projects that are funded, initiated, or implemented by international agencies in developing countries. The first section is organized alphabetically by country, with information provided on selected demographic statistics, population policy indicators, multilateral organization assistance, and nongovernmental organization and other assistance. The second section lists regional, interregional, and global programs. A final section lists the sources of information used.
