concerns a regional training workshop on population estimates and
projections in Africa held in Accra, Ghana, in 1985. The report is in
two volumes. Vol. 1 consists of two parts. Part 1 describes the
origin of the workshop, its organization, and proceedings. Part 2
consists of a detailed account of the lectures prepared for the
workshop. Vol. 2 is concerned with the data available at the workshop,
their quality, and their use in making estimates and
projections.
Topics covered in the lectures include the need for
projections in development planning; problems in estimating fertility,
mortality, and migration; the methodology of making projections at the
national and subnational levels; and projections concerning labor
force, education, housing, and health.
